Well, the Presidential race officially kicks off this Tuesday with the Iowa Caucus, and the Media is doing its darndest to make it seem like this primary season will even be competitive.

Iowa may literally be the only state not to go for Romney in the primary, but I still think he pulls it off.

Predix:

Romney: 34%
Paul: 21%
Santorum: 12%
Gingrich: 8%

If Romney wins Iowa he sweeps the other states. Don't listen to a biased Media that wants TV ratings.

Commentary:

I will be voting for Romney if for some reason the NY primary matters. I've maintained from the beginning of this race that he is the ONLY electable candidate in the field. However, I will add that I absolutely adore Rick Santorum, and not only is he qualified but I could see him potentially becoming electable if given more exposure. But with a president like this one, it's just too big a risk.

And I would vote for Obama over Ron Paul, for the record.

I have the distinct "pleasure" oh having had Santorum as both my congressman and my senator. He;s one of the slimiest human beings ive ever met, so i am REALLY pulling for Romney to put this away today and end this nonsense.

Found where my polling location is. I'll probably get there near the start of check-in so I can talk with the reps and make a final decision on who I will be voting for.

Romney is probably worse tbqh. I know someone who worked for him and considers him the most corrupt and despicable person he can think of. He can't even go into a lot of what his job entailed since a large portion of it was illegal. It was crazy watching him start of a huge Romney supporter and end up hating him so much and threatening any of us if we ever considered voting for him.

I'm gonna be going to observe the caucuses tonight, but I still don't know how anyone actually supports the republicans, if you truly believe in small government, the republican party is not for you.

Of course, if you're on the left, the same applies to the democrats (because everybody is corporate whores)

This wasn't some stranger. I know him very well and it was obvious he was telling the truth. I also do know some of the stuff he did (I saw him working on some and he went ahead and told me a few of the other things).

One of his main jobs was to go to conventions/rallies/etc or onto message boards and act like a crazy, racist, extremist while claiming to support other candidates. He'd also be given specific "facts" about the candidate he was "supporting" to spread around.

It sounds like your friend hates Romney because he's got experience with Romney. If he went and worked on any other campaign, he'd find it's not just Romney, it's all of them.

Well that's depressing. Though I will say the only candidate I have ever done any work for was Obama (a buddy basically dragged me to help and I needed the money) but all any of us ever did there was work phones, hand out signs, and give out info packet stuff.

I guess now that I think about it that is the only case I personally know of someone actually being an employee of a campaign and not just a paid volunteer.

I worked on Romney's 2008 primary campaign doing basically the same, and yeah, that's not really much of anything. Once you start getting a little closer into the process and seeing to what great lengths the Republicans and Democrats have gone to monopolize the entire process, you lose any desire to work on any major campaign ever again.

I think Romney would be a good President, personally. I think Obama is a good President as well. I think they and their campaigns both did/do some completely despicable things, but I also think that the reason they do those things is because we, as voters, force them into a system where that's the only way to succeed. It's voter ignorance that allows tactics like those to succeed, and if one person will succeed with those tactics, it means every single candidate has to use those tactics. It's like a football game where the refs aren't throwing any flags -- the team that obeys the rules anyway is going to lose every time.

Expecting a Romney win, although I'm not sure if that will force any of the others to end their campaigns. Is there any chance Perry could be the first guy to drop out? All the others have much less money but have been able to make do with it. Perry, conversely, has a gigantic war chest but no momentum and no shot outside of a strong Iowa showing. His high-paid campaign staff must realize this. If he does fold it up, where does all the money go?

Michelle Bachmann quits first, I think. Her campaign is completely dead in the water after Iowa. Her campaign staff is abandoning her, she has very little money to speak of, and very little support, either. I see her leaving the race if she finishes with less than 10%, which is likely.

Rick Santorum will also likely quit if he can't beat Perry and Bachmann. He has almost exclusively campaigned in Iowa, and has no organization anywhere else.

Perry and Gingrich will most likely hold out until the end of the month, and will need to win at least SC or FL to stay in competition. If Romney can't win either of those states his best bet is for Perry to win one and Gingrich the other.

Status quo = Romney?

If so, I think he'll win because it's finally time for Iowan Republicans to stop screwing around and realize that he is their best shot at beating Obama. Bachmann, Santorum, AND Paul are too extreme, Gingrich is a fat (this matters) slimeball, and Perry would get embarrassingly wrecked in the debates. Paul's exaggerated bevy of young supporters aren't gonna do anything in a caucus to convince older Republicans that their guy has a shot, and I doubt Santorum will have managed to build enough momentum in the past half-week.

Romney 2012. "Settle with Mitt."

I think a lot of people in the Republican Party really don't want to settle for Romney. That's why these other candidates keep surging and then falling in the polls. I think they're supported by the same people, the people who want anyone but Romney. But all their other choices suck, so they keep changing their favorite.

Ron Paul gives this country a chance at an honest debate with real differences for the first time in a long time. The country can finally be asked what it really wants on important, non-fluff, questions.

Also, I'm thinking many Republicans aren't really worried about beating Obama at this point. The economy is just too bad for him to win. Plus, the smear campaign the Republicans, especially their members in Congress, have run against him since the day he took office has been too effective.
