Flux takes place in the year 2202, when YOU wake up in a strange cell with the ability to travel back to the start of the day with the press of a button. Choices made lead YOU down the path to solving the mystery.

All previous entries can be found here: http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Flux_CYOA

I'm reposting the previous story segment and current vote totals so the discussion can continue.

You struggle for a response. This world is so new to you that you’re having a difficult time coming up with a lie that would be reasonable. “I’m uh, I um...” You stutter out words for a moment before finally coming up with a straight answer.

“I’m just interested in finding out more about Alameda, and I’d be crazy to not carry a gun walking around Fruitvale by myself.”

The guard looks you over, a smug smile on his face. “This isn’t a visitor center. You can’t just waltz up to one of the gates and expect hospitality. That kind of thinking will get you killed. Alameda is a highly restricted residential slash business zone, and without the proper credentials, you’ve got no business being here, and you definitely don’t look like someone who has business being here.” He let’s out a short laugh before returning to his previous serious state. ”I don’t believe you anyway. No one just walks around with a weapon this high tech unless you’ve got connections.” The guard picks up the gun from your bag and examines it. “An Ingersoll brand Mark 4 Varigun. I’ve been wanting to buy one of these myself, but I can’t afford it on my salary.” He looks over at the other guard. “What about you Sanders, ever used one of these?”

“No sir.” the other guard, Sanders, responds. Sanders looks like a young kid compared to the other guard. He can’t be older than 21.

“They call it a Varigun because of all the different ammo types available for it. Explosive rounds, electric rounds, gas rounds. Pretty serious stuff. Can’t get something like this on the streets.” the guard says. “Like I said, I don’t believe you at all. Not one bit, but I’m going to let you go. I’m keeping the gun though. Think of it as... a parting gift for me being such a good sport about all of this.” He takes the gun and extra magazines out of your bag and places them on an adjacent table.

“Sir, why is he dressed like that? You think he’s escaped from somewhere?” Sanders asks.

“Who cares. I don’t want to deal with him anymore. Too much paperwork. Just get him out of here.”

“Yes sir.” Sanders approaches you and pulls you up to your feet. “Grab your bag and follow me.” You grab your messenger back, which is much lighter now. The other guard stays behind and admires his new gun with a friend, and you watch him put it into a locker as you exit the outpost.

Sanders walks you past the row of waiting cars and to an empty dirt lot away from the bridge. “I know you’re up to something, but I doubt it’s worth getting killed for. I recognize the name on your scrubs. Location Labs. Lots of crazy stuff in the news about that place.” You look down at your scrubs, and it does indeed say Location Labs in small letters under the pocket. ”Stay away from Alameda. Be thankful all you lost was your gun.” Sanders turns and walks back towards the outpost.

Once back on your own, you check your bag. The screwdriver is still there, as is the UCC and your notes. You feel your pocket for the button. Still there.

A) Return to the Fruitvale BART station.
B) Look for another way into Alameda.
C) Press the button.
D) Other (Please specify)

Current votes are
A - 0
B - 2
C - 3
D. Walk across the bridge - 1
D) Try to bribe the young guard for access with our UCC - 2
D) Enlist the young guard's help. - 1

You think carefully about your next course of action. Your mind shifts back to the cell and the building; back to the name that Sanders said. Location Labs. You now have a name, assuming these scrubs are actually from that building. Either way, it’s something to go off of. With no other apparent options, you decide to press the button again.

This time before pressing the button, you sit down and lean up against a wall, bracing yourself for the pain. You pull the device out of your pocket, take a deep breath, and press the button. You accept the pain a little easier this time, but you still black out.

You wake up.

You get to your feet quickly, before the lights even turn on. Your body is still in pain, but you’re used to it at this point. Just to be safe, you feel for your messenger bag and are relieved to find it still there. The lights turn on and you once again find yourself standing in the center of your cell.

What will you do? (Please Specify)

What CrimsonOcean said.

Does anyone else find this weird that we are apparently this mysterious project, but for some reason they gave us a device that essentially allows us to time travel? We need to search for the point of this project, to figure out if we are somehow being watched, to figure out why we have this power. Do other people have it? Can anyone go back to point X in time whenever they want? I just can't shake this feeling that our every move is being watched.

Think back to the "Try Again" brick. Whoever initiated this experiment knew we were going to be breaking out, knew we were going to try and escape, to live a normal life, to find out what we are. They wrote "Try again" on the brick to encourage us. We are doing what they want. They've wanted us to keep living this life of trying to escape because they want us to keep ending up in situations that force a button press. Are they trying to log what people would do to initiate a button press to mass produce these things? Why project Alameda? Does everyone in Alameda have access to this and that's why it's so super-technological? I feel as though we may be playing right into the hands of whoever is directing the project. The doctor said he had superiors. These superiors clearly know we've been pressing the button, I'm sure they get alerted to it. If our memory doesn't get wiped, why would theirs? This is super-technological future here, maybe the Dr. and Sarah are advanced robots? Which explains how they can "die" and end up back where they were same as before?

All stuff I've been wondering about today.

You're over thinking things a bit. We are time travelling here. Therefore it isn't that everyone else's mind is being wiped, its that as far as their timeline is concerned none of it ever happened. Think of it like playing a video game and hitting reset. You know what happened in the game and will remember it for the next time you play, but as far as the game is concerned none of the play time you reset ever happened. You can fight a boss 100 times but if you reset after each one the game will think you only fought it once. That's what is happening here. Everything and everyone goes back to where they were when this started. Only our character and the things our character are carrying actually "survive" the reset. Therefore I doubt anyone is keeping track of everything we do, unless the device itself does so. And even then we don't tend to put the batteries in right away and we have a couple of devices so it still wouldn't give a complete record.

Personally, I figured the try again brick and everything was left by another time traveler to help any one else who gets stuck in the project. Quite possibly they are left by us. The real question is how we suddenly appeared 30 years into the future to start this whole process.

I vote for what Crimson said.

Good point. I was just saying that it is probably something other than a street address because there is no street with that letter structure.

I was making the assumption that it would be an existing street because otherwise there would be no way for us to figure that clue out

Your first stop is the cinderblock wall above the bed. You want that extra battery. You get up onto the bed slab and reach into your bag. You pull out the screwdriver that you stashed previously. It’s a flathead, so you don’t have much trouble getting the block out a few inches. In your attempt at prying the block out however, you break the screwdriver. The shaft clangs to the ground while the handle remains in your hand. You aren’t worried about it though. You’ve given yourself enough room to get your fingers around the side of the block.

You pull the block out and gently place it on the bed slab. Working quickly, you pull the battery out of the hole and place it in the device. It begins to glow its familiar glow. You put it back in your pocket and put the cinderblock back in place. You get up from the bed and head over to the door.

Everytime you get to this point, you worry that you might not hear Sarah respond; that it might be someone else. You think about the last time you saw her was on the roof, and vow to finally make it out of the building with her. You press the intercom button. You have a plan to make things easier.

“Hello?” you say, crossing your fingers that the voice that responds is Sarah.

“What do you want?” the familiar female voice responds.

“I think you might wanna come up here and check this out. Something isn’t right.”

“What -” You cut her off.

“Just get up here, quick.” you say. You’re pretty confident in your plan.

You wait a moment, eventually hearing footsteps approaching the metal door. The slat on the door opens and you see Sarah staring back at you. “What is it?”

“Sarah Jurick, right? My name is... well, I’m Subject Alameda. Project Flux. I know you know who am I and what I can do.” You speak quickly and calmly. “You’ve helped me in the past. The doctor, Dr. Leonard, he wants to kill me, and he’ll kill you too if you don’t listen to me.”

“What is... what are you talking about?”

“Sarah, listen. You know what happens when I press this button.” You hold up the device so she can see it. “I know I don’t have to explain it to you more. You know what Project Flux is. You know that the project was shut down 30 years ago, but I’m here now. I’m real. How else could I have gotten in here. You have to believe me, Sarah.”

Sarah says nothing for a moment. “Look, Dr. Leonard wouldn’t...” she says, trailing off.

“He does Sarah. He will. Whatever you do, don’t call him. I know you were about to. How else could I know this? Please Sarah, you have to help me get out of here. I’m not a prisoner, I’m a human being.” You finish with your condensed explanation. If that doesn’t convince her, you don’t know what else will.

Sarah seems to sympathize with you. “I believe you, I do. I’ve read the files on Project Flux. I’ve seen the pictures, your information, the background. Dr. Leonard would kill me if he knew I was snooping around his office.” She says through the slat. “But... you’re right. You being here doesn’t make any sense, and I guess that’s proof enough. Plus, if what you said it true about Dr. Leonard, I guess it would be in my best interest to help you. What do you want me to do?”

You’re almost amazed by how easy it was to convince her. “I need you to let me out of here, and then I need you to help me.”

The slat closes quickly. You hear numbers being entered into the keypad, and then the sound of the lock disengaging. The door opens, and you are once again looking at Sarah. “What do we do first?”

A) “I need a change of clothes.”
B) “Can you get me into the armory?.”
C) "We're going to the supply room."
D) “We need to get out of the building.”
E) “Tell me more about Dr. Leonards office.”

“I need a change of clothes. Is there anything we can do about that?” you ask.

“I don’t really think so. I mean, this isn’t exactly a place that has spare clothes just laying around. At least none that I know of. Maybe of the offices?” Sarah says.

Your ears perk about at the mention of offices. “Speaking of offices, what was that you were saying about Dr. Leonard’s office and files about me? I need to see those files.”

“His office is on the 6th floor. If you’re thinking of sneaking in, forget it. He’s up there right now, and it’s a heavily trafficked floor with lots of cameras. We’d be spotted for sure.” she replies. “As for what I remember, I read those files back when I started here. That was a while ago and I don’t really remember too much. I just know that Project Flux involved time travel, or time manipulation I think they called it. Other then that, I don’t really know. I’m sorry.” Sarah’s response is a slight let down to you.

For a moment you stop and consider actually trying to sneak up into the offices, but you put it out of your mind for the time being. “What about the guards? Don’t they have lockers or something where they would keep clothes?” you ask.

“Sure, but do you really want to go towards the guards?” she responds.

A) Head to the guard’s locker room anyway.
B) Go to the 6th floor and find Dr. Leonards office.
C) Go to the supply room.
D) Ask Sarah to open the Armory for you.
E) Try to escape from the building with Sarah.
