Pretty dumb all around. No idea what's up with Sony and Nintendo making these revisions worse than current models. I'm guessing this is supposed to replace the current models?
So from looking at the picture, they are making the new Wii pretty indistinguishable from the upcoming Wii U(at least for the casual mind). Because that worked SO well with the 3DS.

At least with Sony this sort of thing made sense from a greed standpoint since they were (and I suppose are) still theoretically trying to sell PS2s. But as far as I know GCNs are very much no longer in production. How much money could they possibly save by doing this so late in the Wii's lifespan?

If they aren't trying to sell Gamecube games anymore, doesn't it make sense to drop Gamecube support?

I bet this doesn't even come with a price drop. Nintendo is probably preparing for DLC GameCube games on Wii U by phasing out legit GameCube supports. Assclowns.

I imagine it's a cheap idea to implement and it will save them hundreds of thousands, if not millions. Plus it will very slightly drive demand for the current model, which isn't selling all that much. And there's basically no negative to it. So it makes sense, it's good business, and not really "greed". Sony's wasn't "greed" either.

Yeah, I don't think they'll continue to sell GC-compatible models. Nintendo has stuck with one Wii SKU for five years; don't see them changing that now, especially by releasing a weaker model.

the wii is a joke console that everyone bought on hype and wound up shelving it in their attic a few months later, with gamecube compatibility gone, it's officially the worst console nintendo has ever made, eclipsing even the virtual boy.
