Who invented this? The earliest I can think of it is in Paper Mario. It was actually a little jarring playing Mario RPG after playing Paper Mario, jumping on a goomba, and just having a normal fight. I mean, it's perfectly serviceable. I like the Shadow Teddie fight, it's when he feels the most actually important to the plot? Like Morgana, Teddie mostly just explains what's going on to the characters and the audience, but unlike Morgana, who turns out to have a backstory connected to what's going on in the plot, Teddie just sort of doesn't. He's just a random shadow that became sapient and got wrapped up in all of this silliness, basically. It's like, whoops! Guess I'll spend the last 40% of the game in human form being a perv. So the Shadow Teddie fight ends up sort of being his best moment, and I guess this is a part of that. Dancing Spinoff Games Futaba Romance Labrys Arsene Lupin: It's like I said, in actual reality, everyone's personas would be Batman or Ariel or something. But since Persona insists on using obscure things, even to the point where when they use Cinderella, they use the French version of her name for no reason, Lupin is fine. I looked him up on Wikipedia to refresh myself on him, and man, I didn't realize he looks like the Penguin, talk about the Batman connections. I don't know, I'm sure he was cutting-edge in 1905, but whatever, I will never read any of his stories. Virtually always, my tactic is to trigger weaknesses and then just all-out attack. Sometimes, when an enemy has no weaknesses, I just spam Morgana's 'small chance of crit' attack, but that's about the extent of my planning for basic fights. The only justification I can think of is that Confidants give you bonus abilities while S-links don't, but like... who cares?
