(T-90) Bioshock - The Ocean on His Shoulders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp6QpMWaKpE Nominated by: Johnbobb Scores: 5 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 3 + 5 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 24 Comments: Chaos-Zero: A song of two sides. I like how the dissonance and tension sandwiches a very morose and raw lead violin. There certainly a lot of melancholy illicited amongst the dread of Rapture. FL81: Very atmospheric, perhaps too much for my tastes, but I'm enjoying the somber strings. maple_violet: the ocean is sure on his shoulders (my feelings about this song match my feelings about bioshock in that it is overly self-serious) lem: [C] Definitely a spooky, unsettling song in the beginning. The violin part is much nicer, but it doesn't really do anything that I particularly enjoy. Fluttershy: First Listen: Incredibly pleasing for some reason. It's very tragic and wistful & I love those adjectives. The ending is perhaps a bit too abrupt though; it suddenly goes for a very harsh ending, like being slammed into prison on a life sentence. Which is certainly tragic! I'm not quite saying that the end doesn't fit. it's just a sudden, brutal, crushing twist ending that reframes the vibes I was getting from the rest of the song. [Second Listen: Beautifully tragic, though the ending does pull me out of it a bit. I also wish it were longer. Like, this would be perfect music to gaze out a window and brood with, but it's so short & the ending so brutal that it's oddly ill-suited for what I want from it. I still really like it though.] (77.6/100) Gavs: In a block of anime songs, this stands out by having a completely different sound to it. Starting with sinister strings, we move into a sadder violin then lean back to threatening at the end, especially with the final bang sound. This short piece does an excellent job of conveying both the majesty and ambition of Rapture, and the horror of what it became. rwlh: [6.5] fine but not really something I'd ever go out of my way to listen to dowolf: A very sad opening violin. That said, the song feels very light to me. I wish it were heavier, that you could feel the weight of it. You get a bit of that at the very end, but yeah -- I want more. failgirlema: horror movie background music (not a compliment, sadly), doesn't rlly do anything. at all. imo stuff like this doesn't rlly work for me in any real capacity as something to listen to because it doesn't really feel like its made to be listened to. this is like the cruelest i've been to a song sorry :( --- Only the exceptions can be exceptional. ...
