Legalization of weed didn't even help with the illegal drug trade because the government regulates and taxes it so much people can't afford to buy or sell legally. Some of the various state laws don't even make sense. The way things are set up when companies like Philip Morris are able to get in the game they'll crush any competition and small timers will be out of a job.

I'd imagine that once it becomes fully federally legal and the market is allowed to reach its full potential, the lobbyists will start fighting for lower taxes on it. Along with more competition allowing for prices to go down.
