It's still a huge step towards rec. At schedule 3 there are far less restrictions on studies and what not.

Yup. I worked in pharmaceutical repackaging for a bit, and we were able to handle schedules 3, 4, and 5 no problem. Couldnt do either 2 or 1.

Going down from 1 to 3 is a good signal indeed.

And alcohol isn't classified as a controlled substance at all. It's probably the most dangerous substance you can buy.

Legalization of weed didn't even help with the illegal drug trade because the government regulates and taxes it so much people can't afford to buy or sell legally. Some of the various state laws don't even make sense.

Some of the various state laws don't even make sense. The way things are set up when companies like Philip Morris are able to get in the game they'll crush any competition and small timers will be out of a job.

I'd imagine that once it becomes fully federally legal and the market is allowed to reach its full potential, the lobbyists will start fighting for lower taxes on it. Along with more competition allowing for prices to go down.

You should take any win that you can get. CIIIs are way less restrictive and indicates a shift. You couldnt even get a prescription for CIs at your local pharmacy. CIIs were extremely restrictive. CIIIs let you get refills and can be transferred once. Also, many doctors require you to have another visit before getting another CII prescription but that doesnt seem to be the case for CIIIs. To top it all off, the drug can keep moving categories in the future.

Dont get angry about not getting exactly what you want.

Yeah now that you mention it, this would effectively make MJ medically legal on a federal level. So people stuck in shithole states could now at least get a script. Amazon's new legit pharmacy is already awesome for getting certain meds, soon cannabis pills might also be delivered right to people's doorsteps!

The majority of maintenance CII scripts are amphetamines and most doctors nowadays write three one month scripts at a time and add do not fill before dates. CIII's actually seem to be way more strictly handled, ie Suboxone, hormone treatments, etc

Fun fact - most people are aware cocaine is a schedule 2 anesthetic and opium tincture is used to stop diarrhea, but methamphetamine is also schedule 2. I've never seen it prescribed but it does happen.

How would this affect medical marijuana card reciprocity among states? And job protections.

There's no drug testing in New York unless you're a DOT driver or work/contract for the federal government.

I assume if anything changes regarding how drug tests work, it will probably be like other drugs that require a prescription to use. If you test positive without a prescription/medical license (in a state that still tests for it) then you fail the test.

But the pessimist in me assumes itll still just be oh you smoked within the last week-month youre fired now

Need to stop wasting time, money, and people's lives and just make it legal. I remember the House had a bill to legalize it but when Pubs took over, there was no way it was going to even be put to vote. Course, even if Dems manage to take back full control, it'll still not be voted on.

I just hope we get some drug test reform to match this. Weed stays in your system much longer than most drugs, and as it is now, you will likely lose your job if you smoke within a week to a month of a drug test.

Note Biden spearheaded this:

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/joe-biden/biden-administration-plans-reclassify-marijuana-easing-restrictions-na-rcna149424

President Joe Biden directed the Department of Health and Human Services in October of 2022 to review marijuanas classification. Federal scientists concluded that there is credible evidence that cannabis provides medical benefits and that it poses lower health risks than other controlled substances.
Biden even made history at the State of the Union address this year, for the first time referencing marijuana from the dais in the House chamber and making note of the federal review process. No one should be jailed for using or possessing marijuana, the president said during the speech.
