It is somewhat odd that FF games had more agentic and prominent female characters 25 years ago than they do now (see FFXV and XVI). I don't want to hijack the topic, but Resident Evil fans have been complaining about this exact thing for at least 15 years. Being a pretty big fan, a part of me has always resented how Western Hollywood Action Explosion-Time rotted what was such a cool part of the franchise.
