Some people are gay or trans or any other number of things and don't feel the need to announce it to the world, and there is nothing wrong with that. The same should go for fictional characters and (I don't know why this needs to be said) celebrities. You do not need to perform your identity in order to be valid.
Unfortunately there is not enough widespread acceptance for it not to matter yet.

Also the issue isn't a person revealing how they identify in anyway, it's how people react to a person revealing that information in anyway. If we lived in a society where no one truly cared about another's identity you would never notice when it was done because it would be normalized.
