36 . Chocobo Treasure Hunts / Excavation Intels

Successfully guessed due to perhaps an obvious hint, next up we have Chocobo Hot and Cold. It does seem largely inspired by FFIX's classic minigame. Here's another one where this could have been two separate entries, but I'm going to just stick with ranking them together. I didn't find this as annoying as some games journalists (some people really did NOT like this process), but I also see how it could've been quicker and more rewarding. The excavation intels allow you to transmute new items and are sometimes necessary for other side quest progression, so that's one thing. The random rabbit burrows were rarely worth it, except for filling out your PLAY ARTS set.

Also, surely I'm not the only one who didn't particularly think Chocobo travel was particularly "worth it" (aside from their special abilities). The whole idea of Chocobos is that they're faster and avoid battles. Here, it's unclear that they're actually faster unless you sprint, but most of the time if you're traveling a distance where sprinting is possible, you'll be fast traveling anyway. This is a similar isse that XVI had, where Chocobos weren't a recognizable upgrade over just running around.

Hint for character 61: I expect this guy to be darker, edgier, and more relevant next game. And it's not Vincent.
