The youre not really against murder argument is not very effective when actually applied to the Gotham universe IMO because there is no effective carceral system in Batman comics. Arguments about the death penalty or otherwise killing criminals tend to be rooted in the understanding that society has an effective alternative way to deal with active substantial threats to the population.

Like ok, yes I think there are situations where it is acceptable or good to kill someone, the trivial case being to stop someone from pressing a nuke launch button for example. This isnt very deep, the alternative position of pacifism is the extreme.
