I dunno why people keep saying this. He had a completely justifiable reason (not necessarily good) to not want their help specifically. He saw how much drug dealers could potentially make and realized that was the only quick and easy way to make a ton of money with his skillset. Likely he didn't even realize he was an adrenalin junkie until he kept being put (or putting himself) in high tension situations.
