Well Ortega, at least she says, pulled out due to scheduling conflicts. They could always delay the film so those conflicts are resolved, though I'm not 100% sure that's 100% of the reason why she really pulled out. I'm not really sure how you can make the movie without either of the main characters, even if you were to bring back Sidney they really seemed like they were moving away from that. I was already a bit concerned for how this film would work; Landon didn't have anything to do with the first two films so him exited isn't that big of a deal in terms of that planned trilogy.

It's also a bit of a problem that you only have 2 of the 3 stars left alive in the film canon now. A reboot would have been easier if you had all 3 I think.
