The suggestions you might see in various places don't really matter unless you're bleeding edge, which doesn't sound at all to be the case. You can absolutely work with who you've got. I would be cautious of pulling for anyone unless you know you'll be able to get their ascension materials, too, as you don't want a repeat of Yae. (Though Yae has arguably the worst-placed boss mats for new players out of any characters.
