A lot of fiction knowing where the story goes is pretty irrelevant is mostly my point. Like it's not wrong but there are lots of stories where it matters and a lot where it doesn't. It's all about presentation and what focus is put on.

Rogue One is more of a journey movie than a destination movie. Leia will get the plans, we know this, but how will she and at what cost is the focus which we know nothing about. So the movie still manages to feel like it has stakes and get the viewer invested.

I don't know what Solo is about but if there are a lot of conflicts where what's at stake is Han Solo or Chewie or the Falcon in some way then you could argue that's a problem in a prequel movie. If there the stakes of the conflict involves the side characters heavily then it's less of a problem. If it happens to have side characters but the focus is still ultimately on something you know goes right in the end, then you're just speaking in terms of technicalities
