I think the anime got some false praise in the community before airing that got people that wouldn't have been interested to watch and end up disappointed, like me. A lot of people had been comparing it to last seasons dress up darling when apparently, it never tried to be anything like that and is just a relatively simple SOL romance.

Those people must have never read the manga because Bisque Doll was 100% the same between the manga and the anime. Like, absolutely flawless adaptation. People always fall for SoL / Rom Coms thinking they are "sexual", when they never are.

My issue (which has always been an issue, even back before I took my break from anime) was that people always praise the weirdest anime (or don't praise the weirdest anime). Shows like Odd Taxi or Spy X Family. Would never see myself watching either of these, and I don't really understand why they were promoted so much. Shows like Demon Slayer? I don't like Shounen Jump in general, but they have a huge legacy behind them and I understand the hype from people who have been fans of SJ ever since Dragon Ball.

Edit: Looks like Spy x Family is a Shounen Jump+ Manga. I think I remember hearing about it a few years ago, and it being notable because it was a non-traditional Shounen Jump manga.
