I'll try to summarize Day 1 and get to the rest of the days as I have time.

DAY 1

Opening argument for Johnny Depp was solid enough. I feel it could have been a little more impactful, and one of the attorneys was reading off a piece of paper which doesn't read as well, but it was still solid. I think it had room for improvement and I'm routinely sort of underwhelmed by Depp's attorneys overall. That's a trend you'll see.

The opening argument for Amber Heard's team was... disjointed, to say the least. The first person who spoke, who is the most unfortunately named attorney Mr. Rottenborn, did a good job laying out the facts and kept it focused more on the question of if Johnny Depp actually had damages or was defamed from this. The woman who spoke after him was out of her fucking mind though and shrieking and screaming and it felt like she was berating everyone talking about how Amber was a survivor and how she was trying to defend herself and I frankly zoned out of it because it was just difficult to listen to. I can't remember her name but she is legitimately awful as an attorney, as I can probably explain more later.

The first sets of witnesses is for Johnny Depp, and the first one was his sister, Kristen Zembrowsky (sp?), who worked as an assistant on various films before becoming Johnny's manager. She detailed the awful childhood they had with their abusive mother. She kept pretty chill, all things considered.

Sidebar, because this is important, it became clear with the first witness that Heard's lawyers would be very objection happy. They object constantly, with very flimsy logic and the Judge keeps granting it because Depp's lawyers never have a good reason, and they should. They will object to foundation questions claiming there's no foundation for them and it's frustrating sometimes. And they just keep objecting because the Judge grants them. It's not bias or anything because she grants crappy ones from Depp's lawyers too.

But back to Johnny's sister. The home life is pretty tragic and their mother was just horrible. Bigger things from this are that she saw Amber constantly and never saw her hurt or with any marks or bruises on her. She detailed that she did not like how Amber treated Johnny, and said that she remembered a story where they were talking about a deal he could get modeling for Sauvage cologne. Amber came in and then berated him and told him it was ridiculous that they would want him to model for it because he doesn't have any style. Kristen said this was a constant thing. She also said she would always have to book two hotel rooms when they traveled because Johnny would always leave every time there was conflict. She also discussed that the wedding came out of nowhere and was set up so fast that a lot of people in Johnny's family couldn't even attend. She claimed Amber would also come to her and tell her things about Johnny, but she didn't really believe what she was telling him. And bigger, she discussed the final days of their mother's life which was right before Amber said she was assaulted and Johnny told her that they were arguing again and they just talked about how he didn't want to do this anymore.

On cross, they mostly tried to paint her as hating Amber but she held up and said she wanted to be happy. They also tried to attack her credibility in other ways but it was largely ineffective. Probably the biggest thing is that they have her discuss Johnny's drinking and drug issues. She had sent a text saying "Stop Drinking. Stop doing coke." in text messages, and they badgered her about that, which was fair, but they asked her more questions and she was able to clarify she never saw him do coke or anything.

I'll post Day 2 thoughts as I can get around to it.
