So is anyone else actually following this? I've been following it since the first day of trial for a couple reasons. First of which is that the events of what Johnny had endured with Amber hit very close to an experience of mine. The second of which is because I'm just a big law nerd and I like following trials. It's in my wheelhouse of my profession. I remember when Amber's claims came out first I was very skeptical that she was the only one abused here, and then as information trickled out I was convinced that it was at the very least mutually abusive. After watching and following everything, I'm pretty convinced it was just Amber outright abusive Johnny Depp emotionally, mentally, and physically.

So far it's been very interesting. As a quick recap, Amber Heard filed for a divorce and for a restraining order against Johnny Depp. They got divorced and set out a joint statement of mutual abuse. Johnny Depp's career had cratered and then he attempted to sue The Sun in the UK after they called him a wife beater. He lost that case because of a bizarre law that The Sun could say what they wanted because "that was all the information they had at the time" but a lot of information came out about their relationship that didn't really go mainstream.

And later, Amber Heard wrote an article with the Washington Post where she discussed the abuse she had survived, but didn't name Johnny, but it was obvious it was about him. So he's suing for defamation over that and is undergoing a 6 week trial which is... a lot.

Johnny Depp just finished his own testimony and it was pretty harrowing. He had the tip of his finger blown off by Amber throwing a vodka bottle at it, and then she put a cigarette out on his face. He alleged multiple attempts at gaslighting, cruelty, namecalling, explosions over small things, and multiple instances of physical abuse, along with pictures and images showing bruises and scrapes on him. He eventually decided he would break things off and left to go see his dying mother, and she literally shit on his bed and sent him a picture of it.

Meanwhile, nobody so far has said that they've ever seen a single bruise on Amber who was around her around the time of the incident. And the day she had a bruise on her and went to file a restraining order, a man who lived next to them and was talking to her for a bit early on in the morning saw her without a bruise that entire morning the day of, when Johnny wasn't even there.

It's a very difficult case to win still, and Amber Heard's team appears to be going for a technicality win by trying to claim that a) nobody knew it was Johnny Depp she was talking about in the article; and b) Johnny was already cancelled before the story came out despite Disney putting out that he would no longer be Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie directly after that.

It's been really interesting though, and very sad watching the whole thing. If anyone wants me to post any more detailed info from each day, or a summary of events from a general and legal perspective, let me know.
