I still don't get certain aspects, like why they strip-searched him initially? And where are literally any adults anywhere in this movie?
my guess(es) for now other than the aforementioned wire theory is that they were looking for identifying marks (tattoos, etc.) from rival gangs/organization or signs of drug abuse/self-harm that would indicate him being some kind of liability if they brought him in. honestly everything seems like bit of a stretch but we'll probably never find out.
i did think it was strange that they apparently got to decide their own living situations? like they can apparently choose among themselves which rooms they want and they're free to do whatever. like when he gets kicked out of the room with all the other gang members. at least one of the adults is the one with connections that lets the gang run their little operation iirc though.

to me more than anything, that just reminded me how foreign this world was. not the criminal aspects but how like any other foreign language film where some cultural conventions or attempts at humor don't make sense to me because there are just aspects where it just doesn't even cross my mind to think about.
