This is nothing new for Shounen. This reminds me of when the first 40 episodes of Dragon Ball Super were a retelling of the previous 2 films, then there was 1 good arc, then a ton of filler for no coherent reason (non-Shounen anime does not have filler) and the last like 50 episodes were a garbage tournament arc that were poorly received which canned the show.
