I feel like sometimes theyre right

and sometimes I think ya gotta let go of logic and loosen your cerebral grip somewhat and let yourself enjoy mundane forms of entertainment, thats true for me at least

The problem is, you have to separate the concept of "I enjoy this" from "This is good". Those are two different things.

It's possible to discuss various aspects of filmmaking in relatively objective ways (cinematography, writing/script quality, acting, budget, special effects, blatant influences, etc), making very definitive statements concerning whether or not a movie is good. But plenty of bad movies can be entertaining or fun in their own ways (depending on the viewer's own biases and preferences), so it's possible for a movie to be both terrible and enjoyable.

Even sticking to RedLetterMedia, both Mike and Jay are huge fans of terrible movies, and freely cop to it fairly regularly. Their love of pure schlock is pretty much why they do Best of the Worst in the first place - because it can be fun to get a group of friends together and watch/joke about absolute garbage films, and have a fun time enjoying it. But it doesn't really alter the fact that the movie you're watching is a piece of crap.

People who say "Ehh, it's just a popcorn movie" or "Just turn your brain off and enjoy it" are really just saying they don't care about or want to talk about the object aspects of a movie as opposed to their subjective perception of it. Which is fine, but it's pretty much the antimatter opposite of film criticism or discussion. You kind of need to talk more about the objective things for that sort of discussion to be meaningful at all.
