That's a lot of erroneous math. Covid won't get near AIDS death toll and the AIDS death toll in the 80s was much higher than in recent years.

Oh hey a convenient chart of deaths per year. And... look at that, it peaks at 1.95 million. Sure it only goes back to 1990, but based on the shape of the graph and some pretty basic extrapolation, I have considerable reason to believe it wasn't much higher in the 80's. Not globally, anyway. As we all know, the vast, vast majority of HIV-related deaths have been from Africa, since it spread out of control there while the US managed to get a pretty good grasp on it relatively early at home. I wonder how the statistics would compare if we looked only at the US?

HIV: Approximately 726,000 deaths between 1981 and 2020 (39 years)
Covid: 617,000 deaths between March 2020 and August 2021 (1.3 years)

Oh my. Not only does it look like Covid will "get near" the American HIV death toll, at 553 deaths per day and climbing, there's actually a pretty solid chance it will kill more Americans by the 2-year mark than HIV has in 39 years.

You would think that at some point, you'd learn that it's a bad idea to make statistical claims without checking that the stats actually support them.

But still, to act like covid is the worst health crisis in a century is still just wrong.

You are genuinely struggling to prove the claim that it's only the second-worst one, based on the results we're seeing well before it's actually over and only after taking unprecedented measures to keep it from spreading out of control. Clearly, there is some room to debate the comparison, but to suggest that it should be laughed off altogether is insanely ignorant.

Furthermore, the reason HIV was so bad was because there was so little that could be done to treat or prevent it and it spread in regions where the options that did exist were not available. There are many things that can be done to keep Covid from being that bad, and you have been wilfully rejecting them at every turn. Those that died of HIV and those they left behind would have killed to have privilege of using the options that you are voluntarily ignoring to protect themselves and the ones they left behind. Don't you fucking dare diminish that. You don't deserve to make this comparison. Covid has been kept as "mild" as it is not because it's not seriously dangerous, but because countless people have made sacrifices to keep it that way in spite of idiots like you. And you? You think it's hilarious to wear a mask on a plane and refuse to get the vaccine you're being offered at no cost, for literally no reason except clueless arrogance.
