Not as strongly as case numbers are (yesterday's 7-day daily case average was 110,000, compared to 20,000 a month prior, while yesterday's death average was 516, compared to 205 a month prior), but a delay is to be expected because it tends not to kill people immediately after diagnosis. I doubt deaths will end up spiking as hard as cases do, in the long run, but that's mostly because some of those cases are vaccinated people that are vastly less likely to die.
