Are they even legally available anywhere?

I tried YouTube but there were only snippets of them that I could find.

I liked that Smaug scene from the Hobbit 1977. He kinda looked like a cat in that one lol

Looks like The Hobbit (Rankin-Bass) and Lord of the Rings (1978) are on YouTube if you're willing to pay (the Buy or Rent option).

You can buy all three as a DVD set on Amazon for around $60 (though obviously you might not want to commit to that if you don't know if you'd like them, or don't have a DVD player).

No clue if there's anywhere to watch them free online, but if there is, it likely wouldn't be legally.
