Castlevania Symphony of the Night
...But that's not all!

I'm gonna be honest I almost just went with the prologue. No game dialog is etched in my brain like the What Is A Man? speech between Dracula and Richter. Its a wonderful interaction and one I even used many years ago for a public speaking course as it was the only thing I could think of on the fly.

But that just sets the game up, one of the best games of all time and a game that really put a genre on the map. A genre that is now one of my favorites and is beloved by many even if the names debated a lot.

But there is another moment in this game that is just so incredible to those not in the know. Unfortunately its one of those known moments that is completely ruined by just knowing of its existence. Luckily that was not the case for myself when I originally played thru this game.

See if you just kill the Belmont who has become the lord of Draculas castle you get a bad end. But if you wear the glasses Maria gives you, you can see a spirit possessing poor Richter. Now heres the thing, finding this is a battle of fighting the castle itself. You have to explore a ton of nooks and crannies but its worth it. Upon beating him you expect to fight the big man but...you don't

The wizard Shaft swears he'll get you next time and then something truly strange happens, a cgi cutscene of Draculas Castle. Except what is this, a second upside down castle appears from above and connects the two castles. Welcome to the Inverted Castle, its pretty much the same locale you went thru but now upside down and chock full of new items, bosses and content to explore. The % of your map suddenly jumps passed 100% and when you thought you were near the end the goal post moved down the block on you.

Like many other famous twists in game history, this moment is mostly ruined. But occasionally you find a blind player who hasn't the clue and rediscovers this long lost magic once again.
