Okay, so, the Senate was expected to vote on the 1/6 Commission today. Now, it's come out that McConnell has enough votes to filibuster it... but then it somehow became an even bigger shitshow.

Okay, so the Senate has two things on its calendar and it has to do them in order. First is the Endless Frontier Act. That's the bill that has come up tangentially here with regarding the NASA/Space discussion as well as the whole "human chimera" thing from earlier in this topic. However those were just amendments to it and it's a larger science focused bill.

It looked to have bipartisan support and cleared an earlier vote with 68 votes... then the Senate entered stall mode and it wasn't clear why. Eventually it emerged that the GOP was like "whoops we lied actually we might not be able to go with this" which, I mean, of course they did. But then it further came out that it appears that what's actually happening is that Ron Johnson is throwing a tantrum because he wants to have an amendment regarding the border wall in this (again, remember, a science bill for the most part.) Furthermore, his amendment was already put up for a vote and was defeated a week ago.

For some schadenfreude here, this has totally fucked up the Senate's vacation plans. Thursday was supposed to be their last day before a Memorial Day vacation. Senators have had to reschedule and cancel flights to deal with this shit. Johnson wanted them to recess for 3 hours to read amendments... again? Rick Scott just went "fuck it" and wanted them to recess until June 7 and start the vacation. Both requests got shot down and they're again forced to work past midnight.

As I write, Johnson is up there spewing trash on the border and immigration. Not sure yet how much time he has but I assume we'll get this vote (and then the 1/6 Commission) super late. Again, the commission is expected to be filibustered but this has all entered even more clown car territory.
