in case anyone is interested, here's a snapshot of some of what me and deo constructing the bracket looked like

in general, i placed down all the matches, and in my placement considered the factors listed above (spreading out series, spreading out tracks that have the same initial nominator, spreading out style categories like chiptunes, while generally trying to create engaging matchups and bracket flow at the same time. seeding was also a factor, but treated very loosely & taken with a grain of salt since the influx of new people this year makes stuff like that very unpredictable anyway)

then deo would go through and look to see if there were any conflicts where the same person supported both songs in a round 1 match. which felt like nearly half the time. whenever there was a conflict we'd re-arrange it, which might fix some conflicts but then create new ones. but we kept re-arranging it repeatedly until all of those r1 supporter overlap conflicts were down to zero! that took a ridiculous amount of time, and toward the end, we were basically just trying to figure out how to place one single song for 2 hours (oninaki - battle -threat-!!!) without it creating new conflicts. we eventually got it, but that was crazy to try to do manually. HUGE thanks to deo for pushing me to go that far, i wasn't planning on going that far since it isn't usually considered worth it or a realistic goal, but he was willing to put in all that extra manual cross-checking work to check every single match for conflicts, and it payed off

that said i think this is the first time any vgmc has gone that far to avoid conflicts in someone supporting both songs in a round 1 match! last year me and azu kinda tried but really just focused on initial nominator, and before that it pretty much wasn't a factor. so for any of the flaws this bracket has in any other way (questionable seeding, STILL having conflicts in songs someone "would have supported" facing r1, bracket sections particularly weak/strong sounding to specific people, etc) at least we can say we managed to do that hahaha
