Jenova Dreamweaver turned out to be a hooded Organization XIII member and Sephiroth, who might or might not be real, carried him away somewhere. Barret is alive, apparently he's saved by fate. And by fate they meant "the game only allows three party members at a time so Sqeenix writers had to find a way to put Barret out of commission". --- Into the woods, but mind the past...
