After you beat Grimm the first time and go hunting for your third set of flames, if you go to the Deepnest location you meet Brumm and he talks to you about not wanting to be used as a slave to the Troupe anymore. You can then head back to where you first lit the flame to summon the Troupe and help him banish them+himself from existence, breaking the cycle. The Troupe disappears from Dirtmouth entirely, and a new accordion player with amnesia shows up instead, implied to be some kind of reincarnation of Brumm. You don't get the NKG boss fight this way and you lose Grimmchild but gain a different charm instead. Narratively I much prefer this outcome, though of course people who love the boss challenges don't do it. --- Slowly becoming a Final Fantasy aficionado.
