Making it hard to vote is a benefit for the wealthy and corporations. Politicians of both parties are in their pockets, so making it actually easier to vote isn't likely to happen anytime soon. Even the Dems who might appear to try and make it happen are probably secretly not trying so hard.

If you really gave power to the masses, this country would be significantly different. It doesn't have to be socialism to make it more fair for everyone. Wages would be higher, a more equal share of profits would be the norm, more healthcare available (Free or not), and prices for it (if not free) would be regulated to some extent at least.

You have a vast majority of citizens who would be WAY better off with changes that would only adversely affect a very small portion of americans, yet somehow such changes never get made, over decades.

So yeah, voting is going to remain like this, because it helps the people in power, i keeps some of the masses from voting and probably causes some of the votes not be be counted. It's not lack of technology, we could easily use technology to make the voting method far better, it's a lack of intent.
