Well I'm optimistic in some ways, but I don't believe in the system because too many people don't believe in the system. The system will not change because no one is willing to throw away their vote outright (while still being motivated enough to cast the vote to begin with, which is the big gotcha) to make that statement against the system-- they'd rather just make their mostly worthless vote instead. If everyone did "the right thing" though I think the statistics would be too compelling to just ignore. --- No problem!
