By extension, it's worth noting that this is more of a problem for the AAA industry than for indie games (since indie studios tend not to have shares to hold). It still absolutely happens in indie studios, particularly where so many of them are one missed deadline away from being unable to pay their staff's rents, but you tend to get less of the "executive that played a mobile game that one time has decided that you can totally make this whole game in two months" problem that plagues larger publishers. Early Access also helps to alleviate some of the deadline pressure, since you can release an unfinished project and work on it at a more reasonable pace while still maintaining a revenue stream from it. --- This is my signature.
