You randomly brought up an entirely cosmetic feature with zero impact on gameplay to look progressive (actually, I hope you were just doing it to look progressive, because the alternative is way, way worse... well, one of the alternatives, I suppose). Now you're backing up and trying to deny that the intent was something progressive. While I also happen to feel that Crystal was an improvement over GS, of the countless improvements offered by the game nowhere near the top of that list would I include "because you can play as a girl." That's just a weird virtue signal. Crystal had additional story elements, which was cool. It had fixed encounters with Suicune so you weren't just stuck chasing it to try to catch it. It introduced the Battle Tower, which was a fucking major thing. But rather than mention any of this, you just hold up the fact that you have the choice of playing as a female character. That decision is in itself conspicuous.
