They freaked the hell out about it from that very day. You think you know what you are talking about because it makes sense to you. You are just wrong however. Trump also never said the virus was a hoax. That's literally not in context. He said his response to the virus will be the next hoax. So, wrong again. The Covid is the Flu shit has been there from the very onset. Trump likely picked that up from his base, not the other way around. Same with the opening up rhetoric and the anti-masks. Trump was the one who talked about locking stuff down initially and doing it responsibly. His base was the one who freaked out about it. Did Trump set a bad example and some get turned off by him saying the masks were optional, sure. Not the ones in his fervent base that are marching on capitals and shit.
