For starters, making non violent comments online shouldn't mean someone should lose their job and it seems like you reached out to the company with that intention. The Internet can be a bad place. Though probably unlikely, there are people out there who can and do impersonate others to ruin their reputation or make them suffer real world consequences. You may not know for certain who is actually behind that account. Or, it could have been someone who posted that message logged in on his profile, which is also unlikely, but still possible. I'd also think about his family, if he has one. Would you feel bad if his young children were negatively impacted by your decision to have him fired over a comment?
