A LOT of the negative reaction to it at the time stemmed from people going in expecting "LoZ again, only more so" and getting something radically different. Ironically, I've always thought it was a much better game than LoZ1 was. If they'd given it a completely different name, it probably wouldn't have sold as well, but its reputation in retrospect would be much better.
