I think there is an understanding that there is an element of "not safe" to them. But also that getting live sports off the ground and on TV could play a critical role in getting people to stay the fuck home. So I think there is definitely some merit in asking them to play at some risk to themselves if they are willing.
That said, college sports where the players are already being exploited should absolutely not be attempting to play right now.
The NFL is also likely too high risk to get off the ground but I expect them to make the least effort to make play safe.
Imagine telling people who want to play they shouldn't be playing now and it possibly being able to cost them millions of dollars at the next level.
