The actual sequel part actually wasn't as soul-crushingly depressing as I expected... but the ending was certainly way more badass than I expected. Yuna ended up joining Madoka in the "I ~~became a god~~" club and Hibiki in the "I ~~fisted a god~~" club at the same time. Awesome ending to an awesome series, 9/10.
