As the orientation of the new (white) Americans shifted from one of sympathy towards the American Indians, in the late 1700s and early 1800s, to enmity in the mid-1800s and beyond, with westward expansion, the word itself transformed I know you cant comprehend that words change meaning over time but do try to keep up oh hes suspended.
