Sakura was still Sakura in both dubs (though the original dub changed her family/last name to be less Japanese-y) and Tomoyo was indeed changed to Madison in the original dub. Also, Sakura was the one that skated around (not Tomoyo) but Tomoyo was the one who always had a camera and filmed Sakura. So you did kind of sort of combine them in your old memories by accident. Nelvana wanted to market the show (and the cards as real-life merch) more to boys to try and catch the same spark that Pokemon did, so they heavily edited the show to downplay Sakura and make Syaoran (who they renamed by making Li his first name rather than his last) seem more like the main character.
