In fun news, not really, some employee leaked the entire game of, "The Last of Us: Part 2." I guess he or she was upset that Sony and Naughty Dog delayed the game until the pandemic is over, and they weren't going to get bonuses for a while because they're linked to game sales. Therefore, they leaked the game forcing the powers that be to release the already finished product, and get the bonuses sales promised in the contracts immediately when they really need the money.

That could easily backfire. With a story-heavy game like that, leaking the plot means there may be a lot of people who won't buy it, which in turn would hurt profits, which in turn would hurt bonuses.

From what I'm reading the general reaction to the spoilers is overwhelming negative. I could see that easily discouraging a lot of people from buying the game.

Do they know who did it? And wouldn't doing that likely at least void their bonus?

If nothing else, it probably breaks NDA and voids their contract as a whole, if not open them up to punitive lawsuits. They could easily come out of it having less money than when they started, if Sony decided to be vindictive about it (and I don't see why they wouldn't be). Assuming they can track the leak, which should theoretically be possible.

Though it's also possible we're dealing with someone who wasn't going to get bonuses anyway (ie, someone who was just recently fired or released and who are pissed about it), so the leak wasn't "I want to force Sony to give me what they owe me" and more "Fuck Sony, I'm going to try and ruin this game so they suffer, because I hate them now."
