In the year 2020, humanity is faced with its biggest threat ever. An Outbreak of the Kung Flu created when a bored man decided to visit an exoric fish market, and eat an unholy combination of a pangolin and a bat, raw, served on a cracker with fish sauce.

The resulting omega flu has led to a worldwide shutdown of commerce, sports, film, and television, and eventually a worldwide self imposed isolation to quell the spread of the virus.

Yet, while others panic in their homes forced to isolate from people and society us Geeks are living large.

Video games, catching up on books and films we missed, and finally being able to get to that dreaded never ending backlog of stuff we accumulated from a lifetime of geeking.

Therefore, in the wake of self isolation, social distancing, and finally quarantine, post about your experiences. Succeed where the jocks are failing, it is finally the Revenge of the nerds, and The Dawn of the Geeks.

Wrap up from: Geek + in the upcoming post.

Man, I'm so over this thing that I'm eating Chinese food and drinking a Corona beer right now!

And I wish I had the time to catch up on tv, movies, animu, comix, etc. And I also miss having a 100% telecommute.

At any rate, on NPR they were speculating about the unknown long-term effects of the Corona Virus and how it might mutate us. Might we finally get superpowers?!

If this virus mutates our offspring it could end up like the Marvel universe with mutants and X-Men, or like a "Quirk" based society in My Hero academia.

Either way, it could be really bad in each scenario.

Humanity is not ready for either option. I don't trust people, especially not with powers. Heck, we can't even mot hoard toilet paper when this issue has nothing to do with ass paper.

Mutate us? Possibly! retroviruses are a thing that we know exist and change dna. But super powers? No.

But, long term effects? Absolutely, we know people are coming out the other side of this thing with reduced lung capacity that appears to be permanent.

It would be hilarious if people are literally rushing out to buy books about dying of the superflu because an actual superflu is causing problems. It says a lot about humanity. Amazon should presumably still be an option, though.

Side-note - you might also consider The White Plague by Frank Herbert if you're looking for disease fiction.

Not really. What I'm talking about is less like fire (ie, not a nuclear fission/fusion reaction) and more like slowly unraveling at the molecular level, as every atom in your body separates from every other atom and just sort of drifts off in random directions.

Sort of like a miniature-scale "Big Rip" scenario.

The PS5 specs were revealed today. On paper it seems less powerful than the Sex Box, but it is designed to apparently run different games at variable speeds to save processing power and reduce heat. At least that's what the genius at the press conference told me.

Either way, power won't matter if there aren't any games worth playing for the new console.

I feel like this is the same problem we've had for over a decade. Everyone gets excited about the specs of a new generation of consoles, and all sorts of cute and fancy buzzwords are thrown around, but we ask the same basic question, "Where are the games? Tell me about the games."

Speaking of games, how long is it before you can assume a franchise is kinda over? I started watching Skylanders Academy on NF (which seems like a fun series, even if it's not really featuring most of my favorites from the franchise -- although they *kinda* had Hex in the first episode, who doesn't get a line a dialogue but apparently she's a recurring character who has a VA later one) and then started to think that we hadn't seen anything since Imaginators which, coincidentally enough, came out in 2016 the year that Academy premiered (and Academy ran for 3 seasons).

I know that the Toys-to-Life fad basically imploded under its own weight some time ago when others who tried to cash in on it wound up leaving the market (except for Amiibos), but I hadn't thought that it'd be it for both Skylanders the line as well as Skylaners as a franchise since it was the biggest name in the space. With the toy component off the table, I wonder if we're just not going to see any new console games.

The Resident Evil 3 demo is up in America. (Finally) I haven't had a chance to play it yet because my wife had to take her work key back to well work, and we have been chilling watching Deep Space Nine, and trying to ignore the mini apocalypse happening outside.

I did watch a Twitch stream by Maximilian Dood of the game last night, and it seems a lot more action oriented than than Resident 3vil 2 remake.

I guess the joke, Final Fantasy VII Remake will come out when the world comes to an end is coming true. April 10th better get here before we all get The Kung Flu .

Been watching Sharpe -- which, like so many other things, started with YT clips (and some things I've really just seen from clips -- which has served to increase my appreciation for the sometimes-underappreciated villain/antagonist trope: the ineffectual, cowardly asshole in a position of authority (often of the lawful evil alignment, where they enforce draconian rules with malicious glee). In particular, I've enjoyed the comical Sir Simmerson and -- to a great extent -- the mannerisms of the blowhard Lt-Colonel Girdwood.

They're part of the greater trope (and reality of the time) of gentlemen officers who bought their way into or were granted high station despite having little-to-no military experience or a dismal military record. (Who, for added points, scorn officers who came up from the ranks simply for not being gentlemen.)

These villains are kinda great because they're so easy to scorn, given that they lack any redeeming characteristics, while not needing to simply rely on major acts of evil (although both do heinous things). Granted, the other reason I might like them more is simply that they get the best comeuppances and find themselves put in their place rather than simply killed like a typical movie villain. (And, of course, I wound up watching some of their comeuppances before seeing most of their shit.)

Sharpe in general has been a pretty awesome series, but the combat kinda irks me. I imagine that the marching in formation was a real tactic (despite the obvious danger), but you'll also have them break into individual melee where people just pair up to fight, often running among each others' ranks, instead of observing any real formation or tactics.

Depends on if the ray counts as the hose or as the water, one supposes.

Though as I have yet to complete a working disintegration ray, I'm not entirely sure of the mechanics of how one would function, and thus can't really discuss the ramifications of how the ray would potentially alter its own nature. Or, like, what would happen if you shot two rays at each other. Or whether they'd be some degree of blowback or collateral spray that would take out the device firing the ray at the same time (like a bullet vaporizing the gun barrel it comes out of).

We clearly need to get on this. It's important research that simply isn't being done!

Got Animal Crossing, but holding off on Doom until I free up more of my Steam backlog. And I basically can't even look at social media anymore, it's pathetic how much everyone is freaking out over having to stay inside.

We're in the golden age of beer, board games, and media accessibility. There's zero reason this should be a problem to anyone. And for those that legit have a hard extrovert personality, Skype, Facetime, and a litany of other programs can easily replicate the need for social interaction.

For me, this is more or less the same as I would be doing with time off anyways. I'm only going out to see my lady at her place, and she hasn't left anywhere, either.

Scarlett is going crazy staying at home all day. Mainly because she can't go anywhere. She's the type of perso who hates being told what to do. If you tell her to do something her first instinct is to do the opposite. She can't go anywhere, now she wants to leave the house. Leave the house to go nowhere or do nothing because everything is closed.

As for the idea of total isolation and quarantine, for me personally it's not possible. I have to leave the house every other day for dialysis to stay alive. I have to be at dialysis every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6am.

I do wish people who aren't sick to stay their happy asses at home. Trust me, people aren't all that great. You don't need to see them that bad.
