As a single who earns half that and lives with his mother, helps with utility, property tax, and maintains the house. Why move out and waste money on rent if one gets along with said parent(s) and have a sub-30 minutes commute to work?

In CA (bay area) there are people who make over 100k who live in their cars, because rent is so expensive it doesn't make sense, even at that income level, to waste it on renting an apartment.

$3000 a month towards rent, when you make $100k is still a large portion of your total income. After taxes (and many have student loans as well), your talkiig about 60k or so (between state and fed), and if you have student loans it's less then 50k left.

So 4k a month basically after taxes, and rent + utilities + cable etc is $3000+

Can't blame people for not wasting that much money if they don't have to.
