#1:

I super shouldn't start this project cause I haven't finished my FE Fates character ranking but a bunch of The DC Animated movies fell in my lap. The Gauntlet crew did a proper ranking years ago but I'm far from proper.

The crazy things about these films is
1. Batman's in almost all of them
2. They've been releasing these for 13 years
3.Within 36 movies are around 8 continuities officially. Multiverse yo

So lets start with movie 1 of 36 (and atm like 3 coming?)

Superman: Doomsday (2007)

=Design=
First off lets talk animation. It's really good and smooth like a more expensive DC Animated episode. Each of these films I'm told drastically change what designs are used and the voice cast is going to drastically change.

So that being said, Supermans design kinda bugs me as he has a lot of extra weird lines on his face that seemed a bit unnecessary. The only other drastic design change from the DCAU is Toyman who comes off look wise like your typical Reddit user.

=Story=
The story is the Death and Return of Superman in a world that literally could be, but isn't, a followup to Superman TAS. Lex unleashes Doomsday, Superman fights him and beats him....but dies. 2 weeks go by and Superman returns but somethings a bit off. The viewer learns that Supermans robot saves his corpse from Lex and starts to bathe him in sunlight to revive him. Superman clone starts killing and going nuts declaring almost a war against military/police. The real superman returns with the black suit no cape, fights him and beats him. Superman clone dies and everyone happy. Oh and Lex is crippled, but don't worry he's happy too.

In a lot of ways this is Bruce Timm unleashed. All the holding back on outright murder he had to do within the DCAU is just let loose here. There are two very sudden and shocking deaths in this from someone coming just from the DCAU. At one point Lex is talking to Mercy Graves asking if she removed every presence of Lex Corp from the area they released Doomsday. She responds yes and without hesitation or waiting for reaction, he whips a gun out and kills her. It's a moment that changes the dynamic as a viewer, when I see the awful DC Movies I expect something like this but wow this was a bit shocking

The other shocker is Toyman. A great pick by the writers since your presented with this seemingly threatening but a bit laughable villain. This also sets up the re-introduction of Superman. It's shortly after this Toyman kills a 4 year old girl (yikes), and Superman is horrified. By this time the viewer knows that Supermans a clone made by Lex but hes been pretty much Superman, until he takes the already captured by police Toyman and drops him to his death on a police car. This shows that this Supermans morality might have been lost in the cloning process.

=Cast=
Superman by Adam Baldwin: This is a fine Superman, minus the weird face lines, and Baldwin does a really solid job.

Lois Lane by Anne Heche: This Lois kinda works? I dunno something about Heche's performance feels off or weird. Lois is a huge focus in this film and for the most part I enjoyed the character but something I can't place felt slightly off?

Lex Luthor by James Marsters: Lex is fun when he does more than sit around but plans a bunch of steps ahead. This Lex is a planner. There is a fantastic moment where hes depressed because Superman died in what he calls a random event. Later you get that almost Batman/Joker esque crazed when he beats up on his clone Superman with kryptonite gauntlets yelling that he left Lex and how dare he.

Toyman by John Dimaggio: Design was great, role was great. No real issue here.

=Fun Stuff and Random Thoughts=
1.Jimmy Olsens stupid earring, and the hilarity its simply used so Lois can drag his ear

2.This voice cast is literally an era of its time, I can't imagine say Anne Heche getting as anything in this era.

3.There is a part where Lois is so starstruck by Superman Clone that she doesn't put the pieces together. She starts too and that's a fun bit but I wish she remembered that Superman didnt know where Lois lived. Should have been a retroactive red flag

4.The robot at the fortress of Soltiude is a creeper since at first he seems very beep boop beep boop but later goes to freaking lexcorp to retrieve Supermans body offscreen. He definitely was watching Superman and Lois bang

5.I never really like in the mythos of Superman trying to live a double life when hes literally banging Lois. It's not like hes wearing a mask, and the argument of Lois isn't even paying attention to Clark doesn't hold in this take as Lois accuses Superman of being Clark Kent.

6.The black suit and mullet might feel dated now when you look at old comics but I kinda dig the drastic change and it animates well here.

7.Taking a kryptonite gun to the battle just seems like a bad plot device for Lois to acquire it and do something plot relevant. Doesn't read well.

8.The Kevin Smith cameo is kinda chuckle worthy when you realize this entire film is just Superman Lives in animated form

9.I really wanted the 4 fake supermen to show up, kinda bummed about that

=Rating and Rank=
I may change this but I'm gonna say a solid B and it ranks #1 so far what a shocker
