I super shouldn't start this project cause I haven't finished my FE Fates character ranking but a bunch of The DC Animated movies fell in my lap. The Gauntlet crew did a proper ranking years ago but I'm far from proper.

The crazy things about these films is
1. Batman's in almost all of them
2. They've been releasing these for 13 years
3.Within 36 movies are around 8 continuities officially. Multiverse yo

So lets start with movie 1 of 36 (and atm like 3 coming?)

Superman: Doomsday (2007)

=Design=
First off lets talk animation. It's really good and smooth like a more expensive DC Animated episode. Each of these films I'm told drastically change what designs are used and the voice cast is going to drastically change.

So that being said, Supermans design kinda bugs me as he has a lot of extra weird lines on his face that seemed a bit unnecessary. The only other drastic design change from the DCAU is Toyman who comes off look wise like your typical Reddit user.

=Story=
The story is the Death and Return of Superman in a world that literally could be, but isn't, a followup to Superman TAS. Lex unleashes Doomsday, Superman fights him and beats him....but dies. 2 weeks go by and Superman returns but somethings a bit off. The viewer learns that Supermans robot saves his corpse from Lex and starts to bathe him in sunlight to revive him. Superman clone starts killing and going nuts declaring almost a war against military/police. The real superman returns with the black suit no cape, fights him and beats him. Superman clone dies and everyone happy. Oh and Lex is crippled, but don't worry he's happy too.

In a lot of ways this is Bruce Timm unleashed. All the holding back on outright murder he had to do within the DCAU is just let loose here. There are two very sudden and shocking deaths in this from someone coming just from the DCAU. At one point Lex is talking to Mercy Graves asking if she removed every presence of Lex Corp from the area they released Doomsday. She responds yes and without hesitation or waiting for reaction, he whips a gun out and kills her. It's a moment that changes the dynamic as a viewer, when I see the awful DC Movies I expect something like this but wow this was a bit shocking

The other shocker is Toyman. A great pick by the writers since your presented with this seemingly threatening but a bit laughable villain. This also sets up the re-introduction of Superman. It's shortly after this Toyman kills a 4 year old girl (yikes), and Superman is horrified. By this time the viewer knows that Supermans a clone made by Lex but hes been pretty much Superman, until he takes the already captured by police Toyman and drops him to his death on a police car. This shows that this Supermans morality might have been lost in the cloning process.

=Cast=
Superman by Adam Baldwin: This is a fine Superman, minus the weird face lines, and Baldwin does a really solid job.

Lois Lane by Anne Heche: This Lois kinda works? I dunno something about Heche's performance feels off or weird. Lois is a huge focus in this film and for the most part I enjoyed the character but something I can't place felt slightly off?

Lex Luthor by James Marsters: Lex is fun when he does more than sit around but plans a bunch of steps ahead. This Lex is a planner. There is a fantastic moment where hes depressed because Superman died in what he calls a random event. Later you get that almost Batman/Joker esque crazed when he beats up on his clone Superman with kryptonite gauntlets yelling that he left Lex and how dare he.

Toyman by John Dimaggio: Design was great, role was great. No real issue here.

=Fun Stuff and Random Thoughts=
1.Jimmy Olsens stupid earring, and the hilarity its simply used so Lois can drag his ear

2.This voice cast is literally an era of its time, I can't imagine say Anne Heche getting as anything in this era.

3.There is a part where Lois is so starstruck by Superman Clone that she doesn't put the pieces together. She starts too and that's a fun bit but I wish she remembered that Superman didnt know where Lois lived. Should have been a retroactive red flag

4.The robot at the fortress of Soltiude is a creeper since at first he seems very beep boop beep boop but later goes to freaking lexcorp to retrieve Supermans body offscreen. He definitely was watching Superman and Lois bang

5.I never really like in the mythos of Superman trying to live a double life when hes literally banging Lois. It's not like hes wearing a mask, and the argument of Lois isn't even paying attention to Clark doesn't hold in this take as Lois accuses Superman of being Clark Kent.

6.The black suit and mullet might feel dated now when you look at old comics but I kinda dig the drastic change and it animates well here.

7.Taking a kryptonite gun to the battle just seems like a bad plot device for Lois to acquire it and do something plot relevant. Doesn't read well.

8.The Kevin Smith cameo is kinda chuckle worthy when you realize this entire film is just Superman Lives in animated form

9.I really wanted the 4 fake supermen to show up, kinda bummed about that

=Rating and Rank=
I may change this but I'm gonna say a solid B and it ranks #1 so far what a shocker

Justice League: The New Frontier (2008)

=Design=
This movie has some nice style it gets to use in its intro. I'm not art buff so not gonna name drop something to sound in the know. It's very flashy though and reminds me of the old intro cartoons from older movies. There is also a scene late in the film where two characters hallucinate and the art there goes into some acid trip status.

I don't really have any issue with the design, maybe wonder womans hook symbol on her corset armor looks like its impaling her in the heart in some scenes. Martian Manhunter also takes on a real dopey although appropiate silver age look. Maybe its just cause his face suddenly becomes green Mr Clean?

=Story=
This movie takes place across 7 years from 1953 to 1960. The first half of this film is spent following around Hal Jordan and Martian Manhunters origins. We do get some brief appearance that the JSA existed here with at least Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman but their ideals split the team. Since its the 50s its all about Russian paranoia and the American way, this can sadly take you out of the movie at times.

It's a weird film cause I spent so much more time enjoying Martian Manhunters journey among the people and Hal Jordan finding his purpose than I did anything else. When the threat of The Center reveals itself it has the same feel of Superman Returns. Battling an island is just never interesting.

Actually this films just weird all around. Its tone shifts drastically to weird propoganda film levels suddenly and the action never really picks up. The movie ends with implications how this universe in the grand DC universe would proceed if the Justice League existed starting from 1960 and moved in real time.

=Cast=
Jeremy Sisto as Batman: I like Batman in this, a lot. At one point Martian Manhunter and his cop partner find Batman fighting cultists trying to sacrifice a boy. When Batman tries to save him the boy is terrified and Batman becomes taken aback. Later Superman is in the Batcave and we are introduced to Robin, with Batman commenting he wanted to strike fear in the hearts of criminals not children. Sisto has been in a ton of stuff that I've never seen and we'll see him again in 7 years in this project.

David Boreanaz as Hal Jordan / Green Lantern: Couldn't even tell this was Boreanaz. Hal gets one of the best arcs start to finish and *checks notes* we were still 3 years from the live action stinker so color me shocked. I also really liked the green lantern ring doesnt immediately give him the juice, its a nice build up

Miguel Ferrer as J'onn J'onzz / John Jones / Martian Manhunter: The late great Miguel Ferrer was pretty perfect for this role. And Martian Manhunters storyline was great until he becomes Mr Cleans green nephew. After that his role drops down to...nothing.

Neil Patrick Harris as Barry Allen / The Flash: This was a miscast? Neil Patrick Harris sounds bored and stiff in most scenes. Flash is introduced onto the scene early saving Iris from Captain Cold. Hes then ambushed by the government spooks trying to disect him and then he randomly quits on tv. He returns later to become a focus and I dunno it just never clicked

Lucy Lawless as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman: Can't decide if I like this casting or not. On paper sure why not, but in execution its a shrug. Wonder Womans character is pretty grim at the start and then we cut to her later in a very pointless scene where the amazons are slaughtered....oh wait we dont see that. No instead we have her leadership challenged. She shows up bloodied in the invisible jet and aside from carrying people thats kinda it. Eh

Kyle MacLachlan as Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman: We are now 2 superman actors in at this point and I'm down with both. Supermans fantastic in this film and used actually sparingly. Interestingly enough after getting everyone to work together he leads the charge on the Center and...gets blasted. He doesn't show up again til the ending! Wow

Kyra Sedgwick as Lois Lane: A much better Lois though just a bit reporter here. Quick name a Superman story where Lois doesn't crash a helicopter or plane.

Brooke Shields as Carol Ferris: Now knowing who played Carol this makes sense. Carol is a really stiff character and although her character shows some anger in animation the voice doesn't match

Keith David as The Centre: I thought this was Keith Davids silky smooth voice. Too bad this isn't really a character and more of alien island

Other minor roles: Ace Morgan, Rick Flag, Ray Palmer (whose shrink ray makes things explode instead lol), Robin, Captain Cold, and Aquaman (shows up to deliver Superman back and deliver a single line)

=Fun Stuff and Random Thoughts=

1.Animated intro style being like early cartoon animation is pretty fantastic. Frontrunner for intros I guess

2.Captain Cold comes in dressed as a member of an organization with the same letter thrice, its really uncomfortable!

4.Theres some guy with a Hood that gets merc'd pretty early unsure who that is?

5.Batmans ancient computers fantastic

6.Wow that ancient Batmobile wow. It has batmans head on the front for some reason

7.Martian Manhunter learning human culture by watching tv and morphing into real and fictional peoples fantastic

8.Blackhawk Squadron is part of the army, theres a crazy old reference

9.Theres also this guy that I can't identify. He never talks and is barely animated lol

10.The future look at the DC of this world is pretty much the same except they have Black Canary as a Teen Titan/Young Justice

The last one I saw was the one where Batman sleeps with Batgirl, cause it was in theaters and I worked next to a theater at that time

Batman Gotham Knight (2008)

Oh god its an anthology of short stories. Yeah these can be done right but If I'm spending 2 hrs with you, you better tell something good if we gotta rush it instead of fleshing it out.

=Design=
This movie has 6 stories and 3 of them have dreadful art. Story 3 has anime art which is neat but seems out of place.

Batmans suit looks is standard thru all of these.

Scarecrow gets one of the coolest looks I've seen in this film. He actually has the scarecrow arms sticking out as like shoulder pads giving him a real creepy look.

Killer Crocs design is weirdly polygonal, didn't like it.

Deadshots looks is hilarious, its male Carmen Sandiego

=Story=
Story 1: Some kids tell stories about how Batman rescued them exaggerating a lot. They meet up in this abandoned gym or just 'urban gym'. The one kid didnt meet batman and is jelly. Just then Batman crashes thru the wall fighting this.... diver suit guy. Hes beaten pretty bad and the diver guy uses a gas grenade and wants to stab Batman in the back. And he almost succeeds but the kid that didnt meet batman beats the baddie with a skateboard. Batman thanks the kid they leave and the kid has a story to tell.

Story 2: Crispin Allen and a young Renee Montoya are serving under Lt Commish Gordon and its early Batman times. Allen wants to quit is against the Batman, Renee grew up here and feels the Batman is needed. Arkham Aslyums already taken over an entire part of the city which is wild. They get in an argument and somehow park inbetween the Maroni and Russians having a turf war. The hell? They almost die, Batman saves them and it ends with them in awe.

Story 3 : This ones actually really good because it actually focuses on Batman instead of those who live in the world around him. Batman/Bruce and Lucius come up with a repulse emp thingy that will make bullets ricochet off of him. He goes into the field and tries to break the peace between two gangs at the docks over turf. A bullet is shot at batman, and almost kills one of the gang leaders. Batman rushes him to the hospital and hes like this is my battle no one else can get hurt on my watch. ignore the fact I cripple people rawr

Story 4: Batman and the Police are chasing Killer Croc, this is Batmans first encounter with him. He travels in the sewers, battles him and then is LIKE I CANT TAKE A RIDE GORDON I AM THE NIGHT RASPY RASPY

Story 5: This story is fantastic. Batmans been stabbed/shot/something bad and is in the sewers crawling his way out, Alfreds on the way for him. It flashes back to him seeking out a way to deal with his pain in some foreign country. The slowbuild and detail here are really great. A lot of focus on his pain being something not just hard to deal with but outright dangerous. As Batman tries to climb out his hand grabs onto a gun, and then another. By the time Alfred finds him he has tons of guns, so much pain from others in his hands.

Story 6: For some reason Batman has the guns in a bag from the last story but don't worry that won't come into play. Instead this about Batman versus Deadshot. Deadshots targeting the Commish but it turns out its just to lure Batman out to kill him. Theres a moment Batman almost kills Deadshot but instead just standard cripples him.

3 and 5 are fantastic, 6 is ok, and 1/2/4 are dreadful

=Cast=
Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne / Batman in every story is well perfect

Jim Meskimen as Gordon and Deadshot in Story 6, he was Ultron in Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite. I liked this casting quite a bit

Everyone else was so bit part or had a single line that I'm gonna punt

=Fun Stuff and Random Thoughts=
1. Scarecrow as stated above has a great look

2. Deadshots Carmen San Diego look is great

Wonder Woman (2009)

This was a pretty good movie, it has some rushed points near the end and a few of the preachy wonder woman spots kinda suck but overall yeah this worked.

=Design=
Set in what looks like near present day, Wonder Woman 09 has a decently modern setting and style to everything. Wonder Womans outfit is the standard pantless variety shes rocked endlessly for decades.

=Story=
The story this time is an origin film not connected to any universe but stand alone. It starts with the war of the Amazons versus Ares. Hippotlya cuts off her unwanted sons head and Ares is all like wtf.

The B plot of this film centers around Artemis and her sister Alexa. Alexa in this war is a young girl who doesn't want to fight, Artemis is like lol die an amazon who cares what you want. Alexa is thrust into battle and cowers, leading to Peresphone losing her right eye.

Back to A plot Zeus and Hera bound Ares in shackles that take away his god powers. And give the Amazons an island to live eternally in paradise as apologies for being slaves for 100 years.

We fast forward a bit to Hippotlya scultping a child from sand that she gives blood to and then life from the heavens....sure. That child becomes Diana, our Wonder Woman.

But we need to catch up with the other main character Steve Trevor and oh god its a really bad bad steve trevor. There is 0 charm here, he gets both of his pilot friends killed and then crashes his jet onto the island that suddenly appears cause someone punched a mirror in Hippotylas chambers

Diana is the typical sheltered daughter they also taught to be a Xena Warrior Princess? these messages don't add up much here. She beats Artemis soundly while Alexa, now adult, is all like books rule.

Steve trevor immediately oogles some naked amazonians and then runs away trying to mock Diana and others trying to get him. Most of Steves comments in this movie suck. Like I get they want to set wonder woman up to be preachy about men being scum blah blah blah but holy hell dude Steve is a SCUMBAG. This entire movie hes womanizing, trying to get in Dianas crotch pants, and just overall a jerkoff.

So they are gonna return Steve to america once they find out his government has 0 clue about this with the lasso of truth. They hold a competition for some reason to decide the emissary, Diana secretly enters having been assigned to guard duty. Alexa switches with her and is like i'm gonna read some BOOKS!

BTW they let Persephone be the guard for the last 100 years and didn't think shed fall in love with Ares spending day and night with him for 100 years??? Well she kills Alexa , frees Ares and they go off to Hell. There they meet fat Satan, who is using Ares dead son as his slave. Satan frees Ares from his cuffs and then they go to take over the world

Diana wins the competition and gets new underoos. They fly the invisible plane back to america and no one even really cares Steve was gone? lol what I mean he sucks but lol

In America Steve tries to get her drunk to force himself on her, something something they end up going to a volcano to fight Ares. Diana gets her ass beat, Steve flies her to a hospital and we regroup with the final battle

Ares revives the dead amazons, the real amazons show up to fight Ares on american soil. The president decides hes angry and wants to Nuke something so amazon island sounds good enough I guess. Steve does the only good thing the whole movie flying the invisible jet after the missile, shoots it down.

Alexa is a zombie and beats Artemis ass but starts chanting something. Artemis confused repeats that and the spells broken on the dead people (???). Alexa finally wants to fight now that shes dead but Ares makes all the dead return to the afterlife and whomp whomp Artemis sad. Diana fights Ares tricks him into a pool of water where Zeus shocks him for some reason. Diana cuts his head off and hes now Satans new slave!

Back on the island Artemis try book reading but it hard, and Diana is given permission to go be the liaison to AMER...HUMAN WORLD. Steve and Diana are living together, and Cheetah attacks a bank having not ever been set up at all.

=Cast=
Keri Russell as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman: I actually hadn't seen keri russell in anything before but she was a good WW

Nathan Fillion as Steve Trevor: If the goal was make Steve trevor the ultimate sleazeball then Nathan Fillion did a great job.

Alfred Molina as Ares: Spiderman 2s doc ock was ok, but didn't seem really menacing.

Rosario Dawson as Artemis: This fooled me didn't sound like Dawson at all, but she did great

Oliver Platt as Hades: kinda a perfect for this very different (to me) take on Hades

Virginia Madsen as Hippolyta: she wasn't great most of the film, at times you could hear her just not caring

Vicki Lewis as Persephone: Beth from NewsRadio? lol. Yea she was really bad in this

Tara Strong as Alexa: Tara stole scenes she was in, this isn't surprising

=Fun Stuff and Random Thoughts=
1. The invisible plane is never cool and always seems dumb you see her riding in it. I liked that it was completely invisible here, seemed much cooler

2. Wonder Woman throwing her crowns always a move I forget about

Haven't actually seen Gotham Night. Don't know if I ever wanna after that description either!

Also I remember there being 2 Green Lantern movies I think. Pretty sure one of them was okay and one sucked but it's been a long time since I've seen them.

And yeah, Steve Trevor sucked hard in Wonder Woman.
