If you want a real job you better get fluent or at least pass the JLPT N1 (not that hard really) and/or have an advanced degree in a relevant field. Japan has a labor shortage yes, but most of it is low level labor. You don't want to work at 7-11 or a farm field. how hard is it for someone to break into government or government relations work as a westerner?
