If all you're going to do with those feelings is stew over them and feel sad without actually doing anything, it's not particularly rational. If you're going to use that to motivate yourself to work harder and accomplish more, it's more rational. Similarly, if working harder isn't actually earning him any particular benefit that you'd value, there's not much sense in feeling like you ought to be working harder. --- This is my signature.
