For example, if I'm comparing the amount of classes I'm taking and the amount of hours I work to that of some college student, is it rational to feel inferior to him?

Forgive the stupid question, but I must have these answers.

Depends what you do with those feelings and what the implications are of not working as hard. If all you're going to do with those feelings is stew over them and feel sad without actually doing anything, it's not particularly rational. If you're going to use that to motivate yourself to work harder and accomplish more, it's more rational. Similarly, if working harder isn't actually earning him any particular benefit that you'd value, there's not much sense in feeling like you ought to be working harder.

It's not rational to feel inferior but not irrational about working as hard as others.
