No utilities when renting a room (some do, but you spend the time to find a room for $500 that includes utilities and internet).

It's $15 alot of places actually, Seattle for instance (believe it might be going up past that), The bay area in CA, Manhattan NY etc. Many other places will be going up to $15 starting Jan 1 2020 as well. Like I said, more places then you would think (I have no clue how many, but many places don't advertise it much so it's not common knowledge).

And large areas are going up to over $12 an hour starting next year. All of washington state is going to 13.50 as of Jan 1st 2020 for instance.

I believe the house etc is trying to pass a bill to make the fed min wage $15 as well.

Also, if you have a family it's always a deal changer. My post is only for people who have no responsibilities for other people. If you have a SO that actually makes things CHEAPER...but if you have kids etc..dependants, that is a different story.

The main problem is most people believe they need to rent their own place, and doing so eats up a ton of any income they have. Rental prices are extreme, but room rental price, have not increased in proportion. The last place I rented was $370 a month (not including utilities/internet which came to about $40 a month). I didn't have my own bathroom though which I really didn't like.

If you can get 3 friends together though, you can often get a 3 bedroom apartment for about $1200...which is $400 each...and doesn't require luck/skill/persistence in finding a good deal/room.

That is a HUGE reduction in expenses per month. Also a car (as long as you buy a cheap one) doesn't cost much, although it is an additional expense (insurance + licensing + gas = $50 a month probably).

A car is nice but in most cities not needed...and if your just working a min wage job, you can work near where you live for sure. I'm considering ditching mine (Selling them) and just using uber. They did drop the licensing fee from $300 to $30 though, so that reduces the cost...but I pay $50 a month on insurance, and with a bike I could get to most of the places I go, and just use uber on the longer trips (and still spend about the same amount).
