in Canada especially. Going to replace my 6 year old college laptop with a decent gaming PC because it's crashing so much I got banned in Overwatch. heard a combo of the ryzen 2600 and RX 580 was pretty much the minimum for modern games. looked into what a build would cost and it's like $800. I'm broke and I can't cope.

This. Plus, not every can make that depending on where you live. Thats a full paycheck from my other job when I was working full time there. The area has a low cost of living, so people get paid less here...

I wish I could get $800 working part time at minimum wage. Where the hell do you live where can you do that, anyway?

Canada, where TC lives. $11 is lowest minimum wage. If you can't even afford $800 then may be you should just play low end games.

11 at 80 hours every two weeks (assuming you get paid every two weeks) is $880. That would mean a full time job only nets you $880 a month. So, not part time. That being said, if you live on your own, I feel most of that would go to rent. Especially in Canada. I heard rent there was higher than where I live. And then you still have other bills. So, while youre right about being able to buy an $800 computer with a part time job, that leave only $80 to spend on rent, bills, food, etc. So, not really that cheap...

Edit: Though, it actually might not be enough. I forgot to mention taxes. If taxes are taken out of the check, then you may not have enough for that computer with your monthly income of a part time job at minimum wage...

I don't know what math you are doing. 20 hours per week at $11 is $880 in a month. You get tax refund at such low income. If you have a bunch of other expenses then you are probably not just working part time at minimum wage.

Yeah. Did you even read the post. I said you get $880 a month. And taxes will be taken out of that. So, youll get less than $800. And just working more doesnt mean $800 is still cheap. BecIse of all the hills people pay. Rent, water, electric, gas (in some places), Internet, may car payments, gas for the car, food, everything else needed to live. For most people, $800 is just money they can throw around just because they work a lot. Just because $800 is apparently nothing to you doesnt mean everyone else is rich to just toss around $800 freely...

I try. But I am currently one of the 78% of Americans that live paycheck to pay. I have 2 jobs (a full time job, and a full-time job that I'm getting part-time hours at). With my bills and rent, I don't get enough to have $800 a month. I can save a little. But eventually, within 3 years, an emergency will probably happen. I don't have time to save $800 for 3 years. And most people aren't saving a dollar a day for a computer. I'say probably less that 0.1% of people do that...

RX 580 benchs on passmark at 8500 that is a shit video card/processor combo for gaming. As the video card will limit the processor.

On 27th Walmart.com is selling HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop Tower, Intel Core i5-9400F, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660Ti, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD for $580 ($760 canadian). Import it that day. You are welcome.

GTX 1160Ti benchs passmark at 12,000 btw.

CPUs on both builds are pretty much equal to each other.

If you want to bypass Canadian customs just drive South to Walmart across border, and make sure to remove computer from box before coming back (say you went to a lan party).

It cost about $20-$30 in gas to drive 4 hours south and then back again.

Which is pretty much the max most in Canada would have to drive to get to a American Walmart.

Much cheaper than Rip Off Canadian Taxes and Customs.

Heck $100 says he at least has 2 family members/friends planning to go south for black friday anyway. He can hitch a ride with them.

Not everyone is lazy.

Also I know a crazy high number of Canadians who do Black Friday in USA.

Their discount holiday Boxing Day sucks.

You are right. I wasn't really reading what you said because it's all babbling to me. It was a simple example of how easy $800 can come by. I do not understand people like you who thinks $800 is for rich people. If you can't even afford $800 then may be just play cheaper games.

If you dont have other bills, maybe $800 is simple to come by. Its not that $800 is for rich people. But thats a big purchase to most people. Most people dont have $800 of play money a month. I dont understand you who thinks that people who pay bills and stuff will always just have $800 to do whatever with. Its easy to come by $800. But it doesnt matter if you month rent is bills is about twice as much. And that makes ok sense to say if you cant afford $800, just play cheaper games. It just sounds like you either have no responsibilities, or you have much more money than the average person...

You realize you can set some money aside right? Even if you don't have $800 per month of play money if you have say $150-200 of play money saving up for 4 months gets you that $800. It's not like you need to buy a PC every 4 months or something it's a purchase most make ever 3-4 years or longer.
